Sketchy Breaker

A culmination of 21 frames of hand drawn gesture drawings of a break dancer. Using pencil and watercolor brushes to color and roughly shade the frames to give it the feeling of a piece of concept art coming to life. Featured in the NSU 14th Annual Senior Art Exhibition with an AR component.

Face and Hand Study
Study of a 3/4 face portrait as well as a hand in Photoshop. Main brushes use was a small graphite pencil and then used a blend brush in order to smooth out the sketch into a more rendered final result. While realism is not my usual style, it was a very helpful study to do to practice shading.

Feeling inspired by my love for Dungeons and Dragons, I wanted to create a character that would be a great fit in a fantasy setting and a game campaign. The concept is of a narcissistic lord who loves ales of adventure and aspires to have grand adventures of his own. However, the lord is very cowardly but refuses to admit it. He loves to boasts about the accomplishments of the party that he is a part of but takes the credit for their efforts. But once the party knocks him down a peg and he becomes the laughing stock of the tavern, both his inflated ego and hair deflate.

While I have experience with Illustrator for Graphic Design, I never have used it for actually creating a drawing. I sketched the idea for the character and pose in Photoshop and then moved it to Illustrator to trace and render. Using the pen and pencil tool to create the parts of the drawing and the highlights and shadows was an interesting experience. I also learned to create patterns to fill in shapes.

Playing Card

This composition is a compilation of learning three new tools in Illustrator, the intertwine, blend, and symbol spray tool. These were three different projects but I then compiled them into one abstract composition. I recently have been playing the video game, Balatro, which is a card game so inspired by playing cards, I created a symmetrical composition.

Gradient Mesh Portrait
Tasked with doing a portrait in Illustrator with the gradient mesh tool, I picked out the artist Lotus Juice as my subject. This was by far the hardest tool I had to learn. Being careless with adding edges during my first attempt lead to me starting over once. The second time around I was more aware of the amount of edges that I was adding and slowly and surely I reached a point that I was happy with.

Quetzalcoatl Merchant Animated Concept
Taking inspiration from the video game Hades and how they redesign Greek gods and goddesses to turn them into NPCs in the game, I wanted to do the same thing with a mythological figure that I like a lot, that being Quetzalcoatl from the Aztec civilization. Being the god of the wind, sun, merchants, knowledge, and representing the morning star, I created the concept of making him a traveling merchant. He would ride his feathered snake and move his shop from place to place. I used the puppet warp tool to create the slight animations of the robe moving and the snake flying. Everything is created in Photoshop while the body of the snake was created in Illustrator using the blend tool and then imported back into Photoshop to animate.
